When first offered the opportunity, I was nervous and unsure what the event involved. After hearing about the success of the pilot, I decided to volunteer. We decorated the canteen, served drinks and helped clean up. The sense of community made the atmosphere vibrant and pleasant.
Volunteering helped me improve my communication and confidence. Everyone at the preparation session was welcoming and made me feel that I belonged. Speaking to guests showed me that I could adapt to different interactions and that my communication skills were stronger than I thought.
If you are offered the opportunity to take part, do it. Regardless of feeling nervous or unsure, the experience is worth it. It was thrilling, exciting and fulfilling.
The vibe was immaculate and the event was fun.
