I took part after hearing about CanTeam from a teacher. I initially joined simply to help, but the event was great fun and taught me transferable skills. I helped decorate the room, served drinks and spoke with the adults and children who attended.

As an introvert, I felt anxious. Over the course of the event I learnt that I could push beyond my comfort zone. I gained communication and team-building skills and found it interesting to meet so many new people.

I would recommend a CanTeam event to any young person. It is an accessible way to gain important life skills and feel proud that you have helped people in your community.

I learnt that I can work in new environments with new people and still be a valuable part of the team.
